First, if you are considering purchasing an ATV, you should sign up for an ATV safety and driving course. The ATV safety and driving courses are usually offered to friends and family of whoever is purchasing the ATV. The ATV safety and driving course should also include instructions for what to do in case of a roll-over and other first-aid considerations. Everybody who might participate with the all-terrain vehicle should attend these courses.

Second, everybody who rides or drives an ATV should wear the appropriate safety apparel. Safety helmets are absolute requirements for motorcycles and quads. Remember! You are responsible for performing the setup that a dealer would normally perform - such as putting on tires, hooking up the battery, checking tightness of all nuts and bolts, changing oil, etc. Occasionally some units may need other routine items checked/adjusted such as adjusting the carburetor idle and mixture screws, checking to ensure wires are well connected, adjusting chain slack and alignment, if needed.
